Of the total 45,29,913 cars sold in India last fiscal, 18.5% were CNG-powered and Maruti Suzuki sold most of those CNG cars
Stricter emission norms are making diesel engines more sophisticated, driving up costs and making them more difficult to maintain. This is reducing their relevance among smaller cars and driving up the popularity of CNG engines among customers seeking models with low fuel costs and good value for money.
In FY2025, CNG vehicle sales in India grew by 22%, as per data from Autopunditz. 8,38,546 CNG cars were sold in the country last fiscal, and Maruti Suzuki was the top player in this segment, leading it by a wide margin.
Maruti Suzuki offers the widest line-up of CNG cars in India, comprising 13 models. The company offers the S-Presso, Alto, Celerio, Wagon R, Swift, Eeco, Dzire, Baleno, Fronx, Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, and Grand Vitara with CNG engines.
