Kia Syros EV

Kia Syros EV will be the South Korean automaker’s fourth electric model in India after the EV6, EV9, and Carens Clavis EV

Following the all-new, second-generation Seltos on sale now, Kia will launch a new electric SUV this year, derived from the Syros. Testing of the Kia Syros EV is in full swing, and test mules are making frequent appearances on public roads.

Recently, a heavily camouflaged prototype of the Syros EV was spied in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, where Kia manufactures its cars in India and will build the future electric model as well. Apparently, the pure electric variant of the Syros will also have split headlamps, but its front grille design is likely to be different.

While the Syros has two grille openings, the Syros EV may only feature one, at the bottom of the front bumper. Moreover, the distinctive grille will likely have active flaps that open only when needed, improving aerodynamic efficiency and reducing energy consumption. The 17-inch alloy wheels will have an exclusive design and come in a two-tone finish. Unlike its ICE donor, it will have flush-fitted roof rails that further improve drag.

Inside, the Kia Syros EV would feature a new colour scheme that aligns better with its eco-friendly and silent powertrain. The instrument cluster and infotainment system, both of which would feature a 12.3-inch HD display, may have several EV-specific functions. Paddle shifters would be available to adjust the intensity of regenerative braking.

Kia may equip the Syros EV with features like ventilated front seats with 4-way power adjustment on the driver side, an automatic climate control system, a ventilated rear seat with sliding and reclining functions, a 64-colour ambient lighting system, and an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. On the safety front, a 360º camera system, Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems, a dashcam with dual camera, and six airbags would be the highlights.

The Kia Syros EV will likely be offered in two single-motor FWD variants, one with a smaller battery pack and one with a larger battery pack, both featuring LFP cells sourced from Exide Energy. The extended-range variant should be able to cover a distance of 475-500 kilometres on a single charge. A vehicle-to-load (V2L) bi-directional charging function should allow customers to power external devices.
