Mahindra’s new Nagpur facility is being put together to support multiple propulsion technologies ranging from conventional internal combustion engines to electric vehicles
Mahindra & Mahindra has mapped out a decade-long investment plan worth Rs 15,000 crore to create a next generation production ecosystem that will give rise to automobiles, tractors and future mobility technologies. Instead of adding incremental capacity to existing factories, the homegrown SUV manufacturer has chosen to start new.
A vast greenfield site near Nagpur in Vidarbha, spread across nearly 1,500 acres, will be at the centrepiece of this strategy. Production at this facility is scheduled to begin in 2028 and what is more interesting is that it will gradually scale up to become the company’s largest manufacturing location anywhere in India.
The Nagpur facility is being put together to support multiple propulsion technologies under one roof ranging from conventional internal combustion engines to electric vehicles and upcoming modular platforms such as NU_IQ. The approach allows Mahindra to respond quickly to new market trends while keeping costs in check and adhere to global competitiveness.

Once fully ramped up, the plant is expected to roll out over 5 lakh vehicles and around 1 lakh tractors every year which could suffice the requirement of customers in both Indian and export markets. Supporting this mega factory will be a wider manufacturing network across Maharashtra. Mahindra plans to establish a dedicated supplier park stretching 150 acres in Sambhajinagar to improve localisation and streamline component supply for the Nagpur site and the existing facilities at Chakan and Nashik.
In addition, the company intends to secure more than 2,000 acres across three locations in the state to expand engine production, develop new products and house advanced technology operations. The announcement was made on February 6, 2026 during the Advantage Vidarbha summit where the region was positioned as a future manufacturing hotspot.

State authorities have welcomed the investment citing its potential to create thousands of jobs, strengthen the supplier ecosystem and accelerate industrial development in eastern Maharashtra. The project represents Mahindra’s vision of building globally competitive manufacturing hubs from India. Advanced automation, digital production systems and scalable infrastructure will be central to the new facilities as well.
Over the next 2-3 years, Mahindra is planning to expand its INGLO platform based born electric range while the NU_IQ monocoque platform will spawn a wide range of models as well.
