Mahindra NU_IQ platform will give rise to multiple models starting from 2027; Vision S based compact SUV could be the first in line
The global expansion of Mahindra is happening in phases and South Africa has become the trial ground for how the brand wants to behave outside India. Instead of rushing abroad with a few products and flashy marketing, the company is focusing on foundations first – dealer networks, service coverage, parts availability and long-term brand recall.
What has changed in the background is Mahindra’s confidence in its engineering and product credibility – especially on the electric side. A surprising chunk of buyers are first-time Mahindra customers, many stepping down from premium and luxury brands purely for the product proposition and the current born electric duo had garnered over 30,000 unit sales within seven months of launch.
The company is building deeper technology partnerships with established component and electronics suppliers to accelerate features, safety, and digital integration without slowing down production timelines. A huge part of Mahindra’s future strategy also sits on its NU_IQ architecture which was showcased a few months ago alongside four vehicle concepts.

Unlike older platforms that were built around one type of powertrain, this monocoque architecture is engineered to work across petrol, diesel and electric. More importantly, it is being planned with global markets in mind not just India. The goal is to localise products where needed while keeping the core engineering common, cutting costs and speeding up market entry.
A big chunk of focus is toward the sub-four metre space – a segment Mahindra earlier treated as secondary. Tax changes have reopened that door and the company sees it as a volume and global play. While the 4.5-metre SUV zone remains its bread and butter, the smaller segment is now being treated as a definitive growth engine.

Their intent was clear back in August 2025 as the Vision T, Vision X and Vision S concepts are set to make way for products under the 4.5-metre category. The Vision S could give rise to a compact SUV which could essentially be the smaller version of the Scorpio while the Vision X could spawn a compact crossover. The Vision T, on the other hand, previewed the electric-only Thar.
