The Mahindra Scorpio N based pickup truck could take heavy inspiration from the Global Pik Up concept; expected to launch next year in India

Mahindra & Mahindra appears to be inching closer to introducing an all-new lifestyle pickup truck derived from the Scorpio N with fresh spy sightings through 2025 reinforcing earlier speculation. Test mules have been repeatedly spotted under heavy camouflage indicating active development. While earlier prototypes showcased a single-cab layout with an elongated cargo bed, latest spy shots suggest a more practical dual-cab version for India.

Expected to launch sometime in 2026, clues about the pickup’s direction first surfaced back in November 2023 when Mahindra’s design patent images made their way online. These drawings closely mirrored the Global Pik Up concept that debuted at the Futurescape event in South Africa earlier that year. Mahindra had then confirmed that the concept was production-bound – indicating at a new lifestyle-oriented pickup positioned above traditional utility vehicles.

The patent sketches and concept version showcase a noticeably more upright stance compared to the Scorpio N with tougher surfacing and a shorter load bed paired to a double-cab body. These contrasts with the long-deck prototype seen testing earlier – suggesting Mahindra may be evaluating multiple configurations before finalising the India-spec model. Internally, the project is believed to carry the codename Z121.

Recent spy images indicate that while the pickup borrows heavily from the Scorpio N, it will not be a straight carryover. The front fascia on older prototypes featured the familiar six-slot grille, Twin Peaks emblem, LED headlamps and C-shaped DRLs lifted directly from the SUV. However, newer test vehicles hint at visual departures although some lighting elements still appear pre-production in nature.

Underneath the skin, Mahindra is expected to use a newly developed body-on-frame chassis engineered to handle utility usage scenarios. Power is likely to come from the second-generation aluminium mHawk four-cylinder turbo diesel engine. Transmission choices should include a six-speed manual and a six-speed torque converter automatic – paired with a four-wheel-drive system featuring shift-on-the-fly capability.

The company has already indicated that the production version will support Level 2 ADAS including semi-automatic parking assistance and 5G connectivity. Four terrain modes are expected to be on offer: Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Rut and Sand. Features such as Trailer Sway Mitigation may also be under consideration.

With a dual-cab setup, it is expected to take on rivals like the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu V-Cross while the mid-cycle update for the regular Scorpio N is also expected to arrive in 2026.
