Mahindra’s New NU_IQ Platform To Support New Petrol, Diesel & Electric SUVs

Mahindra NU_IQ Platform

The first SUV to be underpinned by the Mahindra NU_IQ platform will be the production version of the Vision S concept

The future SUV roadmap of Mahindra is being reshaped around a next generation architecture known as NU_IQ which is expected to enter production from 2027 onward. Designed as a global-ready platform, NU_IQ will underpin multiple body styles and segments indicating a clear departure from the brand’s more rigid vehicle architectures.

One of the biggest changes NU_IQ brings is powertrain neutrality. Instead of adapting platforms later for electrification, Mahindra has engineered NU_IQ to accommodate petrol, diesel and electric setups from inception. It enables the company to tailor vehicles for different regions while sharing multitude of engineering elements to reduce costs and shorten development cycles.

Among the first vehicles likely to sit on this architecture is a compact SUV derived from the Vision S concept which was showcased along with three other concepts last August. Test mules resembling a scaled-down Scorpio N have been spotted frequently – hinting that this model could be NU_IQ’s production debut. Positioned below the Scorpio N, it is expected to be priced competitively.

It could announce Mahindra’s renewed focus on the sub-four-metre SUV segment – an area the brand previously did not prioritise. Recent tax structure revisions and the positive market response to the XUV 3XO have re-established compact SUVs as a high-volume opportunity. While Mahindra continues to perform strongly in the midsize and full-size SUV categories, smaller SUVs are now seen as a key growth lever.

Recently, it introduced the electric version of the XUV 3XO as well. While the Vision S concept previewed a compact Scorpio-inspired SUV; Vision X signalled a more urban-focused crossover direction and Vision T confirmed Mahindra’s intention to develop a fully electric Thar. Its legacy nameplates could also see electrification in the future.

Strengthening Mahindra’s confidence is the rapid uptake of its born-electric portfolio with over 30,000 EVs sold within months of launch. A notable portion of these buyers are new to the brand. To maintain this momentum, Mahindra is investing in partnerships with global suppliers specialising in software, safety systems and advanced electronics to make NU_IQ-based vehicles competitive in every area.
