With more than 69,000 units dispatched to international markets, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx was the most exported PV from India in FY 2024-25
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has today announced a new export milestone for the Fronx with the compact SUV crossing the one lakh unit mark in global shipments – making it the fastest Indian SUV to do so. The milestone came up in just 25 months since the model entered production. Its assembly takes place exclusively at the company’s Gujarat plant.
Although domestic sales for the Fronx began in April 2023, international dispatches started the same year. Key destinations include countries across Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. Maruti Suzuki has maintained its position as India’s largest passenger vehicle exporter over the last four financial years and it currently exports to even Suzuki’s home market of Japan.
In the first quarter of FY 2025-26 alone, the largest car producer in the country exported over 96,000 units – accounting for 47 per cent of India’s total passenger vehicle exports – which in itself is a new record. At present, the brand ships 17 different models to around 100 international markets. Some of the leading destinations for its exports include South Africa and Saudi Arabia.
Looking at FY 2024-25, Maruti Suzuki recorded its highest ever export tally, crossing 3.3 lakh units. The numbers represented a 17.5 per cent year-on-year rise. Among the top contributors were the Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Swift and Dzire. The Fronx compact SUV coupe is based on the Baleno premium hatchback and it derives power from a 1.2L NA petrol engine.
Recently, the Fronx received Level 2 ADAS functionality in Indonesia while a test mule carrying a hybrid badge was spotted testing a while ago as well indicating that it could get smart hybrid technology. In Indonesia, it is equipped with a regular 1.5L petrol and a 1.5L mild-hybrid mill, paired with either a five-speed MT, a four-speed AT or a six-speed AT.
The K15C mild-hybrid gasoline unit is good enough to produce 101 PS maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 135 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. The regular petrol engine is 4 PS more powerful and 3 Nm torquier. The Japanese brand retails the Fronx with a six-speed AT featuring an AWD system in its home country as well.
