Maruti Suzuki loses a considerable market share in January 2026 with its sales remaining at the previous level while competitors record significant growth
While Tata Motors and Mahindra recorded strong sales growth in January 2026, Maruti Suzuki had a largely flat month. The company continued leading the market, with a market share of 38.6%, down 4.7% from January 2025 (43.2%). Maruti Suzuki recorded sales of 1,74,529 cars in January 2026, which marked a year-over-year improvement of 1% (January 2025: 1,73,599 units). The Dzire was the company’s best-selling model, registering 19,629 units in sales and recording a 28% Y-o-Y growth (January 2025: 15,383 units).
The Ertiga was second on Maruti Suzuki’s January 2026 sales chart, going up from 14,248 units a year ago to 17,892 units, marking a 26% Y-o-Y growth. The Swift was close behind, recording 17,806 units and recording a 4% Y-o-Y growth (January 2025: 17,081 units). The same goes for the Brezza, with 17,486 units sold, up from 19% Y-o-Y (January 2025: 14,747 units).
The Baleno registered 16,782 units in sales last month, which marked a 16% Y-o-Y decline (January 2025: 19,965 units). Next on the list was the Victoris, with 15,240 units sold. The Wagon R was close behind, with 15,118 units sold, down 37% from January last year (24,078 units).

The Fronx contributed 13,353 units to Maruti Suzuki’s January 2026 sales. Compared to January 2025 (15,192 units), the Baleno-derived crossover saw a 12% decline in sales. The Alto saw a 8% Y-o-Y growth, going up from 11,352 units to 12,314 units. The Eeco’s sales increased from 11,250 units to 11,914 units, marking a 6% Y-o-Y growth.
The Grand Vitara saw a 55% dip in sales in January 2026, and the majority of that decline could be due to the arrival of the Victoris. Maruti Suzuki sold only 7,030 units of the Grand Vitara last month, as opposed to 15,784 units in the same month last year. The XL6 recorded a 13% Y-o-Y decline, with 3,820 units sold (January 2025: 4,403 units).

The S-Presso recorded a 33% Y-o-Y decline in January 2026. Maruti Suzuki sold only 1,954 units of the entry-level hatchback last month, as opposed to 2,895 units in the same month last year. The Ignis saw a 50% Y-o-Y decline, falling from 3,780 units to 1,902 units. The Celerio’s sales reduced from 1,954 units to 1,501 units, marking a 23% Y-o-Y decline.
The Jimny appears to be seeing a significant rise in popularity, although overall volume remains extremely low. The 4×4 SUV’s sales grew 263% Y-o-Y last month, going up from 163 units to 591 units. The Invicto’s sales declined 65%, falling from 556 units to 197 units.
