Maruti Suzuki WagonR gets a swivel seat option which is being rolled out in a phased manner and currently available at over 200 Arena dealerships
Maruti Suzuki India has expanded the WagonR’s accessibility appeal by introducing an optional swivel seat which has been engineered specifically to make daily travel easier for senior citizens and people with disabilities. Offered as an official accessory, it helps improve ease of entry and exit – addressing a key challenge faced by mobility-restricted users.
The swivel seat option is being rolled out in a phased manner and is currently available at over 200 Arena dealerships. It comes as a retrofitment kit meaning that the swivel seat can be installed not only on new WagonR models but also on existing cars. The installation process takes roughly an hour and does not involve any cutting or permanent modifications.
According to Maruti Suzuki, the kit has been rigorously tested and validated by ARAI to ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory standards and it is backed by a three-year warranty. The swivel seat has been developed in collaboration with Bengaluru-based startup TRUEAssist Technology. By allowing the seat to rotate outward, it reduces physical strain during ingress and egress, making the WagonR a more inclusive mobility option.
Initially, the accessory is available at select dealerships across 11 cities with Maruti Suzuki planning to expand availability to more locations in the coming months. Maruti Suzuki sells the WagonR in four trims – LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi+ – with equipment levels also varying based on the engine and gearbox combination while six airbags are also available.
On the outside, select variants get 14-inch alloy wheels, dual-tone paint options and power-folding ORVMs. Step inside and the feature list includes a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a four-speaker audio setup, steering-mounted voice and audio controls and a two-tone cabin layout.
Under the bonnet, buyers can choose between petrol and petrol-CNG powertrains. The petrol lineup includes two engines: the K10C 1.0-litre three-cylinder motor producing 66 hp and 89 Nm and the larger K12C 1.2-litre four-cylinder unit delivering 88 hp and 113 Nm. Both engines are offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard while a 5-speed AMT is available as an option.
The CNG version uses a recalibrated version of the 1.0-litre K10C engine. When running on petrol, it develops 64 hp and 89 Nm while output drops to 56 hp and 82.1 Nm in CNG mode. This bi-fuel setup is paired exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission. In terms of efficiency, the petrol WagonR returns 24.35 kmpl with the 1.0-litre manual and 25.19 kmpl with the AMT while the 1.2-litre engine delivers 23.56 kmpl with the manual and 24.43 kmpl with the AMT.
