Based on a ladder frame chassis, the power is channelled to the rear wheels, and the Bolero is a diesel-only model. It is powered by a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbo diesel engine, putting out 76 PS and 210 Nm of peak torque. The Bolero is a popular choice in the rural and semi-urban markets and is known for its rugged as well as reliable nature.
2. Mahindra XUV 3XO
Mahindra is one of the few manufacturers in India which offers a diesel engine across its entire ICE SUV line-up. The price range of the XUV3XO diesel starts from Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level MX2 variant. The sub-4-meter SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine, delivering the best-in-segment torque output of 300 Nm with 117 PS of maximum power. It is available with the option of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT gearbox.
3. Kia Sonet
The Kia Sonet is one of the best-looking compact SUVs in the country, and its diesel range starts at Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base-spec HTE (O) variant. It is powered by a 1.5-litre CRDi diesel engine, putting out 114 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. The Sonet is the only SUV in the segment which offers a proper 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox option with the diesel engine. It is also available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The claimed fuel efficiency of the Sonet diesel is rated at 24.1 kmpl.
4. Tata Nexon
The price range of the Tata Nexon diesel starts at Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Smart Plus variant. It is powered by a 1.5-litre Revotorq turbo diesel engine, producing 113 bhp and 260 Nm of peak torque. The transmission options on offer include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT. The fuel claimed efficiency of the diesel manual variants is rated at 23.23 kmpl, while the AMT transmission comes with a slightly higher 24.08 kmpl.
5. Hyundai Venue
The Venue shares its diesel powertrain with the Kia Sonet, using the familiar 1.5-litre CRDi diesel engine, putting out 114 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. The diesel range of the Venue starts at Rs. 10.80 lakh (ex-showroom) for the mid-spec S Plus variant. Unlike its Kia counterpart, the sub-4-meter SUV is only available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. With a claimed fuel efficiency of 24.2 kmpl, the Hyundai Venue is the most fuel-efficient diesel SUV in this list.
