New-Gen 7-Seater Duster (Bigster) Spied Testing In India For The First Time

The Bigster comes with bigger dimensions resulting in a more spacious cabin and trunk compared to the Duster in Europe

Renault’s sub-brand Dacia unveiled the three-row Bigster in Europe late last year and it has been caught testing in India for the first time fully camouflaged. While the next-gen Duster midsize SUV is being prepared to launch in India, the arrival of its seven-seater counterpart is also inevitable. The former has already been teased in India and spied on test too.

Nissan will introduce a compact B-segment MPV later this FY before the debut of a midsize five-seater SUV based on the Duster and its seven-seater sibling. Thus, it is safe to assume that the Bigster for either brand is still some time away – launch possible in late 2026 or 2027. It is no secret that the forthcoming Renault Bigster will have a lot in common with the new Duster.

However, the differences between them will be significant too, both inside and out. The Bigster leans into its size advantage with larger dimensions translating into a noticeably more planted stance. Key exterior details include a Y-shaped daytime running light layout and a two-tone finish with a contrasting black roof. Recycled ‘Starkle’ polypropylene – sourced from post-industrial waste – features across the side cladding, lower bumpers and wheel arches contributing both to durability and Dacia’s sustainability push.

The SUV rides on 19-inch wheels. On the inside, headroom and legroom fall into segment-leading territory in Europe. The boot holds 667 litres with all seats up while the rear bench splits 40:20:40, making room for a variety of seating and storage combinations. Some of the equipment highlights are a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, flat-bottom steering wheel, multiple airbags and more.

In Europe, the base version of the Dacia Bigster comes with the TCe 140 drivetrain – a 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine that pairs with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with 140 horsepower. For buyers seeking four-wheel drive, the TCe 130 4×4 builds on the same 1.2-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine, although its output is slightly lower.

It gets a five-position Terrain Control system with Snow, Mud/Sand, Off-Road, Eco and Auto drive settings. Some variants also receive hill descent control to improve stability and control in tricky downhill situations. At the top end sits the Hybrid 155 which combines a four-cylinder petrol motor with a pair of electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery, generating 155 horsepower and 170 Nm of peak torque.

Dacia claims the system allows the Bigster Hybrid 155 to run in pure-electric mode for up to 80 per cent of the time while driving through city traffic. We expect the India-spec Bigster to use the same powertrain as in the upcoming Duster and reports indicate that a hybrid system is also being considered.
