New gen Renault Duster will make its debut in India on January 26, 2026 and it will be followed by a seven-seater SUV later
Renault has decided to dust off one of its most familiar badges for India and this time the company isn’t holding anything back. The carmaker confirmed recently that its next midsize SUV for our market will revive the Duster name with the first public showing scheduled for January 26, 2026. It will head to showrooms soon after – indicating Renault’s first serious SUV push here in years.
What makes this comeback more significant is that it ties directly into Renault’s wider global roadmap. The company’s new International Game Plan 2027 includes a new seven-seater SUV and a budget-oriented electric city car for developing markets and the new Duster acts as the opening move in that programme. When the first-gen model landed in 2012, it practically carved out its own sub-segment and Renault clearly wants to tap into the goodwill it left behind.
The midsize SUV space, however, is no longer the empty playground the original enjoyed. The Creta sits firmly at the top but almost every brand – Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, Kia, Toyota, Tata, Honda, VW, Skoda and MG – wants a share of this pie and some of them run multiple products here. The category now accounts for roughly a quarter of India’s passenger vehicle volumes.

Globally, the Duster has crossed 1.8 million units and in India alone the earlier model found over two lakh homes before stepping aside. The all-new version won’t share anything with its predecessor. Renault will produce it at the Oragadam plant near Chennai and the SUV will switch to a heavily Indianised version of the CMF-B platform.
On the inside, Renault seems to be moving toward a high set centre console with an electronic selector for the automatic variants, a 10.1-inch OpenR touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, plus a 7-inch digital cluster for the driver. These will be accompanied by Y-shaped detailing across the vents and door pads.

Buyers will also get wireless charging, a leather-wrapped wheel, dual-zone climate control and Type-C ports, a 360-degree camera system, six airbags, electronic stability control and Level 2 ADAS functions such as lane-keeping assist, blind-spot warning and autonomous emergency braking. Renault hasn’t confirmed powertrains yet but a pair of turbo petrol engines with both manual and automatic choices are expected initially.
