New Mini Cooper Convertible boasts a soft top which folds away electrically in 18 seconds and can even operate while the car is on the move
The new Mini Cooper Convertible has officially arrived in India bringing its trademark open-air driving character and design language to buyers who want something far removed from the regular crop of cars. Launched as a completely built-up unit, the model can be booked through any Mini dealership across the country with deliveries beginning right away.
At the heart of its appeal is the soft top which folds away electrically in 18 seconds and can even operate while the car is on the move at speeds up to 30 kmph. It drops the windows simultaneously, creating a wide and uninterrupted opening for the cabin. When closed, the boot space is 215 litres and with the roof lowered it still offers 160 litres.
The fabric top itself can also be partially opened like a sunroof – sliding back up to 40 centimetres at any speed. The exterior carries forward Mini’s signature cues. The round headlights now come with three selectable LED signatures and the wide grille has been reworked to match the latest family identity. Mini has also included a welcome and goodbye light animation with logo projection.

At the rear, the upright LED lamps use a flush finish and a sleek vertical layout. The model can be optioned in Sunny Side Yellow, Chili Red, Ocean Wave Green or British Racing Green with black or white mirror caps and 18-inch aerodynamic alloys offered in sporty two-tone designs. The cabin is centred around a circular high resolution OLED screen known as the Mini Interaction Unit. Acting as both the display and the instrument hub, it runs Mini Operating System 9 which is built around app-like menus and intuitive gestures.
The Intelligent Personal Assistant responds to “Hey Mini” and controls navigation, media and other functions. Alongside this, owners get features like Mini Digital Key Plus, Remote Software Upgrades, Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, a Harman Kardon audio system, head-up display and multiple connected services. Storage space includes a wireless charging slot beneath the Toggle Bar Island which houses controls such as start/stop, gear selector and the experience mode switch.

The seats are finished in Vescin upholstery, a synthetic and leather-free material made from recycled sources. Electric adjustment and an Active Seat for the driver enhance comfort. Mini Experience Modes allow the driver to change lighting, graphics and sound themes as well. Powering the Convertible S variant is a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing 204 hp between 5,000 and 6,500 rpm along with 300 Nm of torque available from 1,450 to 4,500 rpm.
This setup sends the car from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.9 seconds and on to a maximum speed of 240 kmph. A 7-speed dual-clutch Steptronic Sport transmission handles gearshifts while auto start/stop, brake energy recuperation, active cooling and electric steering come as standard. Safety equipment includes multiple airbags, Dynamic Stability Control, ABS, Cornering Brake Control, Brake Assist, a crash sensor, rear camera and tyre pressure monitoring.

Convenience features extend to new Comfort Access which locks or unlocks the car when the key is detected within 1.5 metres. Assistance functions such as cruise control and parking assistant are also standard. Mini offers a two-year standard warranty with unlimited kilometres and 24×7 roadside assistance. Flexible service packages begin at three years or 40,000 kilometres and can be extended to ten years or one lakh kilometres.
Warranty extensions are also available up to ten years. BMW India Financial Services provides financing through Mini Smart Finance, starting at monthly instalments of around Rs. 58,500 with the added benefit of assured buyback. The new Mini Cooper Convertible is priced at INR 58,50,000 ex-showroom.
