Next generation Toyota Fortuner is expected to boast several commonalities with the newly released Hilux including the aggressive exterior details and a more premium interior
While the excitement surrounding the Land Cruiser FJ has not settled, Toyota has taken the veils off the all-new ninth generation Hilux to double down on it. And given the Fortuner’s close mechanical ties with the Hilux, it gives a clear indication of what to expect from the next-gen Fortuner – a more aggressive design and a heavily revised cabin.
The new Hilux has been designed on the “Tough and Agile” theme which is inspired by Toyota’s latest Land Cruiser family. The next Fortuner will likely follow this design language with a more squared-off front fascia, slimmer headlamps linked by a horizontal bar carrying the Toyota name and a more upright stance. Expect the Fortuner’s proportions to become more muscular with revised character lines and a more modern visual appeal.
On the inside, the new Hilux has undergone a complete transformation – one that the Fortuner is expected to mirror closely. Toyota has focused on enhancing tactile quality and ergonomics – resulting in a more horizontal dashboard layout and a premium cabin inspired by the new Land Cruiser. Depending on the variant, the cabin comprises a 12.3-inch digital instrument console and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit.

The new dual screen configuration is likely to make its way into the Fortuner as well considering that both models traditionally share a lot between them including the platform and mechanical bits. The cabin of the new Hilux also integrates AWD and off-road controls – grouped centrally for intuitive use while higher trims feature a wireless charger, new rear USB ports and a host of connected features accessible via the MyToyota app.
Fleet and private users can view vehicle analytics, location data and even charging status for the BEV version remotely. If Toyota carries over this ecosystem into the Fortuner, it could make the full-size SUV smarter and more connected than ever. Another major step up is the adoption of electric power steering – a first for the Hilux and something that is almost certain to be offered in the next-gen Fortuner.

It should enable better steering precision, reduced effort at low speeds and improved control on rough terrain. On the safety front, Toyota has substantially expanded its driver assistance suite under the Toyota Safety Sense banner. The new Hilux comes with features like Low Speed Acceleration Suppression, Proactive Driving Assist and an Emergency Driving Stop System. It also introduces Blind Spot Monitoring, Safe Exit Assist, and a Driver Monitor Camera. The Fortuner is expected to adopt this upgraded package in full.
With the Hilux introducing a variety of powertrain options – diesel, petrol, 48V hybrid and even an all-electric BEV version, it will be interesting to see what the next generation Fortuner gets. The new Hilux is expected to launch in India in the near future while the next avatar of the Fortuner could follow down the line in late 2026 or 2027.
