Renault Kwid EV offers a claimed range of 180 km per charge and is packed with features in Brazil
Renault has officially pulled the wraps off the all-electric version of its compact hatch in Brazil – wearing the Kwid E-Tech badge. The tiny urban runabout, long known for its practicality and affordability, has been transformed into a battery-powered commuter – the kind of formula that could make it a hit in emerging EV markets including India.
Unlike the standard Kwid we know, the E-Tech adopts a more futuristic face. A sealed grille replaces the traditional air intake, doubling up as a cover for the front-mounted charging port. The fascia features distinct DRLs sitting above projector headlamps while black wheel-arch cladding, contrast body mouldings and 14-inch dual-tone alloys give the small hatchback a tougher stance.
Subtle “E-Tech” and “E-Kwid” badges finish off the rear which boasts a busy-looking LED tail lamp cluster and a black bumper with reflectors. Renault has taken a big leap in terms of cabin and technologies offered. Dominating the dashboard is a new floating 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration.

The instrument cluster is a fully digital 7-inch unit while the traditional gear lever has been replaced with a compact e-shifter integrated into the console. Other bits include a flat-bottom multifunctional steering wheel, dual USB Type-C charging ports, a height-adjustable steering wheel and a roomy bootspace of 290 litres.
Under the skin, the Renault Kwid E-Tech packs a 26.8 kWh battery that feeds a 48 kW electric motor which is good enough for 64 PS maximum power and 113 Nm of peak torque. Renault claims the city-focused EV sprints from 0-50 kmph in just 4.1 seconds and takes 14.6 seconds to hit 100 kmph – typical for a city runabout.

The car offers a claimed driving range of 180 km per charge. Charging options are versatile too as a 30 kW DC fast charger can juice it up from 15 to 80 per cent in just about 40 minutes while a 7.4 kW home wall box takes around three hours for a full recharge. Renault has also paid close attention to the safety of the Kwid E-Tech.
It features six airbags, hill start assist, ESP, ISOFIX mounts, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and a rear camera. Adding to that is a suite of Level 1 ADAS functions – 11 in total including lane departure alert and speed limiter. Priced at BRL 99,990 (around Rs. 16 lakh), the Kwid E-Tech will target high volume sales in Brazil’s compact EV space.
For India, Renault is expected to introduce a locally made A-segment electric vehicle following the arrival of the next-gen Duster and its seven-seater counterpart and it could follow the footsteps of the Kwid EV.
