Skoda Kylaq sits on the heavily localised MQB A0 IN platform and is equipped with a 1.0L turbo petrol engine, mated to MT and AT options
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd has achieved a significant manufacturing milestone with the production of 50,000 units of the Skoda Kylaq in just over a year since its launch in December 2024. Built at the Group’s Chakan facility near Pune, the Kylaq has emerged as a key volume driving product for the brand – playing a crucial role in driving the Group’s 36 per cent year-on-year growth in 2025.
As the Group’s first sub-4-metre SUV, the Kylaq has significantly expanded Skoda’s reach in the mass market SUV segment. To support the Kylaq programme, SAVWIPL increased production capacity at the Chakan plant by 30 per cent. The expansion was accompanied by deeper engagement with domestic suppliers – enabling higher localisation levels across components and systems.
Within days of its debut, the SUV recorded over 10,000 bookings, prompting the Czech auto major to temporarily suspend reservations for the base variant in December due to overwhelming demand. Bookings resumed in January with the company offering an added incentive in the form of a complimentary three-year standard maintenance package for the first 33,333 customers.

Underpinned by the heavily localised MQB A0 IN platform, the Kylaq is powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine coupled with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The SUV is offered in five colour options and features a comprehensive equipment list including a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, six airbags, leatherette upholstery and a six-way power-adjustable driver seat.
Recently, Skoda introduced the Classic+ and Prestige+ variants of the Kylaq with the former sitting at the lower end of the range and the latter higher courtesy of the inclusion of a host of new features and technologies. The Kushaq received a midlife makeover last week and it will be followed by the updated VW Taigun in the coming months.
