Tata Motors sets a new monthly record for EV sales in July 2025, but weaker demand for its ICE models bring its overall passenger car sales down
Tata Motors today announced its sales performance for July 2025. The company registered a small decline in passenger car sales last month compared to the same month a year ago.Without detailing model- or segment-wise sales, Tata Motors simply revealed that it sold 39,521 cars in India in July this year.
This number includes both conventional models and electric ones. Compared to July 2024, the company’s domestic sales in the passenger car segment declined by 12% last month. For reference, the homegrown automaker had delivered 44,725 ICE and electric passenger cars in July last year, 5,204 units more than in the same month this year.
While domestic sales were in the red, Tata Motors fared much better in exports. Compared to just 229 units sold in July 2024, the company delivered 654 units in July 2025. It exported 425 more cars last month, marking a whopping 186% year-over-year growth. In an absolute sense, though, export is still a minuscule business for Tata Motors, especially compared to India’s leading automaker, Maruti Suzuki.

Tata Motors saw a big uptick on the EV front in July 2025. The company sold a total of 7,124 electric cars last month, including export shipments. Compared to July 2024, it sold 2,097 more electric cars in overseas markets, recording a solid 42% year-over-year growth.
The recently launched Harrier.ev wasn’t the main contributor to this growth, though, as its deliveries commenced just earlier this week. That said, Tata Motors is sitting on a huge order bank of around 10,000 units for Harrier.ev, which means as production normalises and availability improves in a month or two, the flagship EV could significantly boost the company’s EV sales.

Including both domestic sales and exports, Tata Motors delivered a total of 40,175 passenger cars last year. The company had registered 44,954 units in total passenger car sales in July 2024, which means last month its deliveries were down by 4,779 units or 11%.
Soon, Tata Motors will likely see a surge in domestic sales as major festivals of the year begin with Ganesh Chaturthi this month, a positive momentum expected to last at least until Diwali in October. The launch of the first-ever Sierra.ev and the all-new Sierra in the fourth quarter should continue bringing excitement to Tata Motors showrooms throughout 2025.
