Tata Motors sets new records for quarterly wholesales and retail sales, and the upcoming Sierra is expected to support momentum going forward

Tata Motors sold 1.7 lakh cars in Q3 FY2026 (October-December 2025), posting solid growth during the quarter. The performance was supported by the tailwinds of reduced GST and the peak time of the festive season. The company’s export operations also recorded a sharp increase, although their contribution was only a small fraction of the total volume.

Q3 FY2026 (October-December 2025) was the best-ever quarter for Tata Motors, with 171,103 units recorded in wholesales. Compared to Q3 FY2025 (October-December 2024), when the company shipped 139,829 units, this marked a 22.3% growth. In December alone, Tata Motors recorded a 22% Y-o-Y growth in wholesales.

Tata Motors’ retail sales were also at an all-time high in Q3 FY2026 (October-December 2025), surpassing 200,000 units. In December, the company’s wholesale volume stood at 50,046 units, marking a 13.1% Y-o-Y growth (December 2024: 44,230 units). The retail sales were significantly higher than the wholesale volume last month, cutting the time cars spent at dealer lots to around 18 days.

Wholesale shipments of SUV models grew 18% in Q3 FY2026 (October-December 2025), and more than 35% of the volume came from the Nexon, 64,000 units. In October and November, the sub-4 metre SUV was India’s best-selling car. Further below in the sub-4 metre space, the Punch was the best-selling model in its segment during the whole quarter, but Tata Motors has not disclosed any data for that model.

Tata Motors saw a particularly high demand for CNG cars in Q3 FY2026 (October-December 2025), selling more than 47,000 units of its bi-fuel models during the period. It also recorded a 49.5% Y-o-Y growth in EV sales, up from 16,119 units in Q3 FY2025 (October-December 2024) to 24,103 units.

The majority of the growth last quarter (October-December 2025) was contributed by domestic sales. Of the 171,103 cars, 168,616 units were shipped to Indian dealerships, 20.9% more than in the same quarter in the previous financial year (October-December 2024).

2,397 units were exported, and while that may not seem like a significant number, it marked a 491.9% growth compared to Q3 FY2025 (October-December 2024), when the volume stood at just 405 units. This impressive growth could be attributed to the company’s re-entry into South Africa’s passenger car market in August.
