Tata is well on track to garner over one lakh unit sales this CY courtesy of the impressive tally of over 57,000 units in Jan-Sep 2025 period

Tata Motors has set a new benchmark in India’s automotive market by reporting its highest-ever electric vehicle sales in the month of September 2025. The company registered a staggering 96 per cent year-on-year surge in EV volumes and the existing financial year has certainly proved to be a revival phase in terms of garnering numbers.

For the month of September alone, Tata retailed 9,191 EVs – domestic and exports combined – against 4,680 units in the same period last year. The near-doubling of sales establishes Tata as the country’s EV leader – accounting for nearly one in five of its total passenger vehicle volumes during the same month.

On a quarterly basis, the automaker clocked 24,855 EVs in Q2 FY26 – up 59 per cent from 15,642 units a year earlier which as you might expect was the strongest quarterly EV performance ever recorded by the company. Having recently expanded its portfolio with the Harrier EV, Tata Motors is also benefiting from a wider appeal in its green range.

Consecutive record breaking months have enables cumulative EV sales between January and September 2025 to 57,022 units – already amounting to four-fifth of its CY2024 tally putting the company firmly on track to cross the one lakh yearly mark – a milestone that looked ambitious not long ago. The overall passenger vehicle business also reported impressive gains.

Total sales in Q2 FY26 including international business reached 144,397 units, rising 10 per cent over 130,753 units in Q2 FY25. The domestic PV wholesales stood at 140,189 units – up 8 per cent year-on-year. Meanwhile, export volumes played a crucial role too with international PV sales jumping more than fourfold to 4,208 units from just 823 units in the same quarter last year.

With GST 2.0 lowering taxes on cars and the festive season lifting buyer sentiment, Tata posted its highest-ever monthly PV dispatches at 60,907 units – a 47 per cent leap over September 2024. Within this, domestic sales stood at 59,667 units. The company highlighted that new bookings more than doubled in the latter half of the month after the revised GST rates came into effect.

Alongside the record EV run, CNG models touched an all-time high of over 17,800 units in Q2 with a triple-digit growth compared to the corresponding period a year ago. Popular models like the Nexon led the charge – setting a personal best with over 22,500 units sold in a single month – the highest ever for any Tata PV.  The Harrier and Safari also gained volumes by the recently launched Adventure X editions according to Tata. Exports, particularly to South Africa, rose nearly five times year-on-year.
