From the ₹8 lakh Bolero to futuristic Nu_iQ EVs, Mahindra’s journey crowns it as Progressive India’s bold new market leader
In just a few years, Mahindra has redefined what Indian car buyers aspire for. Once celebrated for its rugged and affordable utility vehicles like the ₹8 lakh Bolero, the company has now successfully transitioned into a premium SUV powerhouse, offering products like the XUV700, priced up to ₹30 lakh.
This shift marks a dramatic turnaround in consumer behavior—where buyers who once valued only durability and affordability now seek advanced technology, global styling, and premium features, without looking beyond an Indian automaker.

The real transformation began in 2021 with the launch of the XUV700, which introduced world-class design, segment-first technology, and powerful performance. This was the moment Mahindra’s new journey took shape. Building on this success, the Scorpio N quickly followed, becoming India’s best-selling rear-wheel drive SUV, proving that Mahindra could blend traditional toughness with modern sophistication.
Adding further strength, on 15th August 2024 Mahindra launched the Thar Roxx, which has already established itself as a lifestyle SUV in the highly competitive ₹15–25 lakh mid-size SUV segment. With features like ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, 4WD capabilities, and powerful petrol (2.0L) and diesel (2.2L) engines, the Thar Roxx is not just an evolution of an icon but a bold statement in lifestyle motoring. It shows how Mahindra can take a niche product and make it aspirational for the masses.

Parallelly, Mahindra laid the foundation for its electric future. Just three years ago, the brand showcased its INGLO platform, designed exclusively for battery electric vehicles. Fast forward to today, Mahindra has already launched the BE.05 and XEV9e, SUVs that have completely shifted the perception of EVs among Indian buyers. No longer are electric cars seen as compromised alternatives—instead, they are aspirational, stylish, and performance-driven, thanks to Mahindra’s bold approach.

Recently, Mahindra also unveiled its futuristic Nu_iQ platform, which will underpin its next wave of products. This moment is being compared to historical milestones in India’s automotive industry—Maruti’s first car in 1983 or Tata’s Indica in 1998—both of which changed the course of Indian mobility. For Mahindra, Nu_iQ represents not just another platform, but a movement of innovation and scale, signaling India’s rise in the global EV revolution.

The Competition in Reset Mode
For years, Japanese and Korean automakers have dominated the Indian market, particularly in the sub-₹18 lakh SUV space. With models designed to balance affordability and reliability, they have been “milking” this segment, building strong profits while maintaining leadership. But Mahindra’s entry into this space with the Nu_iQ platform—its first launch scheduled for mid-2027—is a direct challenge to this dominance.
Despite having over 5,000 touchpoints, the title of India’s largest car manufacturer, and the advantage of being the nation’s most trusted automotive brands, the current market leaders must now go back to the drawing board. Mahindra has disrupted the SUV game with just five blockbuster launches in four years—the XUV700, Scorpio N, Thar Roxx, BE.05, and XEV9e.
Together, these products in the ₹15–30 lakh price band account for over 45,000 units in monthly sales, a feat no Indian automaker had achieved in such a short span. In contrast, the established leaders are struggling to infuse excitement and innovation in the same segments, giving Mahindra a unique edge.
A New Market Leader for Progressive India

It is not an overstatement to say that Mahindra is now the new market leader of Progressive India. From transforming the buying behavior of Indian families with premium SUVs, to rewriting the perception of EVs, and now gearing up to challenge entrenched foreign players in their strongest turf, Mahindra has shown unmatched agility, ambition, and foresight.
This is no longer the Mahindra of the Bolero era—it is the Mahindra of XUV700, Thar Roxx, BE.05, and Nu_iQ. A brand that not only reflects the aspirations of Indian buyers but also symbolizes the rise of India as a force in the global automobile landscape.
