Mahindra emerged as the biggest gainer of CY2025, recording the highest volume increase of 97,739 units and it finished second in the overall sales table for the first time
Last year showed an apparent change in pecking order in the passenger vehicle market with growth increasingly concentrated among brands that strengthened their SUV portfolios and introduced refreshed products. While overall industry volumes remained competitive, only a handful of manufacturers managed to post strong year-on-year gains – both in absolute numbers and growth per cent.
Mahindra emerged as the biggest gainer of CY2025 by recording the highest volume increase of 97,739 units. The numbers translated into an 18 per cent growth – accompanied by a market share gain of 1.5 per cent – the highest among all brands. The performance proved Mahindra’s dominance in the SUV space where consistent demand for models like the Scorpio, Thar and XUV range continued to fuel growth.
Maruti Suzuki ranked second in absolute growth – adding 51,091 units over the previous year. However, its 3 per cent growth came alongside a 1.1 per cent decline in market share suggesting that while volumes increased, competition intensified across mass-market segments. Toyota closely followed, posting 50,832 units in addition, achieving a 17 per cent rise and improving its market share by 0.7 per cent.
