In January 2025, Tata Nexon headed the compact SUV sales charts ahead of Tata Punch, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Fronx and Venue
The compact SUV segment stayed put with its good run of fortunes in the first month of the new calendar year with sustained buyer preference. With multiple strong performers from Tata, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia and Mahindra, the segment delivered some impressive numbers and contributed to a consistent flow of volumes every month.
The Tata Nexon remained firmly in the lead posting sales of 23,365 units in January 2026. The sub-four-metre SUV recorded a massive 52 per cent year-on-year growth over January 2025. Not far away in the second position was the Tata Punch with 19,257 units – registering a healthy 19 per cent YoY growth.
The arrival of the facelift recently should help pump up volumes further. Maruti Suzuki’s Brezza secured third place with 17,486 units sold – also growing by 19 per cent year-on-year. It is also bracing to get a mid-cycle update in the coming months judging by the frequent spotting of test prototypes. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx, however, witnessed a slight dip.

It sold 13,353 units last month and recorded a 12 per cent decline compared to last year. The Hyundai Venue maintained good growth clocking 12,413 units with a 12 per cent YoY increase as the recently introduced new generation has been well received by consumers. The Kia Sonet emerged as one of the strongest gainers – posting sales of 10,998 units and an impressive 53 per cent growth.
The Mahindra XUV 3XO registered a stable performance with 8,845 units – growing by 5 per cent year-on-year. The Hyundai Exter, positioned as an entry-level micro SUV, saw a mild decline of 7 per cent – selling 5,621 units during the month as against 6,068 units in January 2025.

The Skoda Kylaq stood out with exceptional growth. The compact SUV sold 3,220 units with a staggering 159 per cent YoY increase as it finished in the ninth position. Meanwhile, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor rounded off the top ten with 2,521 units as against 2,470 units with a YoY growth of 2 per cent.
