In the list of top 10 electric cars sold in January 2026, Tata Nexon EV headed the way ahead of MG Windsor EV, Harrier EV and Mahindra XEV 9e
The electric PV market in the first month of new CY saw the major chunk of volumes were registered by established players with Tata Motors maintaining a commanding lead. The Tata Nexon EV emerged as the highest-selling electric car in January 2026 with 3,098 units. It was followed by the MG Windsor at 2,567 unit sales.
The Tata Harrier EV secured third position with 1,995 units while Mahindra’s XEV 9e was close behind in the fourth position at 1,945 units. Further down the list, Tata Tiago EV recorded 1,223 units and the Curvv EV posted 1,100 units. Mahindra’s BE6 also crossed the 1,000-unit mark with 1,028 units while Tata Punch EV added 980 units.
MG Comet EV continued to attract buyers with 766 units. Looking at manufacturer-wise performance, Tata dominated the charts with 8,616 units with a massive 52.4 per cent market share. MG Motor followed in second place with 3,731 units and a 22.7 per cent share as the Windsor EV attributed to nearly 69 per cent of its total EV sales.

Mahindra & Mahindra was close behind at 3,660 units – capturing 22.2 per cent of the market – showing how the EV space is increasingly becoming a three-horse race. The homegrown manufacturer’s recently introduced XEV 9S has also been well received by customers as it posted 612 unit sales last month to round out the top ten.
Hyundai registered 247 units in January – accounting for 1.5 per cent of the market. It is largely supported by models such as the Creta EV. Kia managed 178 units – securing a 1.1 per cent share while Citroen recorded 24 units with just 0.1 per cent market share.

With new launches and expanded charging infrastructure, competition will further intensify especially in the compact and midsize electric SUV segments as established brands will look to consolidate their presence while new offerings are waiting in the horizon from other automakers including Toyota and Honda.
