In the list of top 10 sedans in September 2025, Maruti Suzuki Dzire retained its number one position ahead of Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze

Last month, the volume sales in the sedan market showed an apparent divergence between compact and midsize sedans in India. While smaller sedans continued to capture buyer attention, many larger models struggled to maintain their footing as SUVs continue to dominate the roads due to their versatility and expansive portfolios.

At the forefront, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire emerged as the clear best-seller – crossing the 20,000 unit sales mark. Compared to last year, its sales nearly doubled, registering an 85 per cent rise. The Dzire’s enduring appeal comes from its practicality and fuel efficiency as it resonates with a large section of buyers across India in the personal and taxi space.

Following the Dzire, the Hyundai Aura maintained its steady momentum – dispatching a total of 5,387 units. The tally represented a 21 per cent improvement over September 2024. The Aura has been the second most sold sedan in India in recent times and its volume figures improved 1 per cent on a MoM basis.

The Honda Amaze saw a slight dip in sales as it moved a domestic total of 2,610 units last month which was down 7 per cent year-on-year. Despite the minor decline, its comfortable ride quality and reliable engine continue to make it a preferred choice. The new generation Amaze made its debut late last year and it has been decently received amongst consumers.

Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia continued to hold their niche – posting 1,648 and 1,339 units respectively though both recorded small declines of 3 and 4 per cent. Skoda will announce the prices of the Octavia RS performance sedan on October 17 and the first lot comprising 100 units has already been sold out in India.

Meanwhile, midsize sedans like the Hyundai Verna and Honda City faced steep falls with the Verna’s sales down 39 per cent to 725 units and City down 45 per cent to 496 units.

On the premium front, the Toyota Camry maintained modest numbers – recording 137 units with an 8 per cent increase. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, on the other hand, recorded zero sales.
