In the table of top 10 SUVs in January 2026, Tata Nexon led the way ahead of its sibling Punch, Creta, Brezza, Scorpio and recently launched Victoris
The SUV space endured a successful start to the new calendar year with January dispatches reiterating the segment’s dominance across price bands. From compact crossovers to off-roaders, buyer interest remained intact as multiple nameplates posted healthy volumes – suggesting that the momentum could be carried forward into the year.
At the top of the charts once again was the Tata Nexon while familiar heavyweights such as the Hyundai Creta and Mahindra Scorpio continued to maintain their grip. Tata Motors’ Nexon emerged as the highest-selling SUV in the country in January 2026 with 23,365 units dispatched as against 15,397 units during the same period last year.
Registering a massive 52 per cent year-on-year growth, the Nexon continues to benefit from its modern design, multiple powertrain options and a stronger value proposition courtesy of the GST 2.0 price revisions. The compact SUV has consistently remained among the bestsellers in India in 2025 and January further consolidated its mass-market appeal.

Meanwhile, the Mahindra Scorpio range followed with 15,542 units – holding steady year-on-year and to intensify competition, a mid-cycle update for the Scorpio N is currently under development.
