Here we have listed the new compact SUVs waiting to arrive from Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra and Kia in India
The compact SUV market is gearing up for a strong of new launches stretching over the next two years with nearly every major carmaker preparing new models across petrol, hybrid and electric formats. With multiple new products in different stages of testing and development, the sub-4-metre class is headed for a complete shake up.
1&2. Tata Punch Facelift & Next-Gen Nexon:
Tata has two major compact SUV projects underway. The Punch is readying for a makeover with updates to styling and features. In addition to that is the development of the second generation Nexon known internally as Garud. Scheduled for a 2027 introduction, the new Nexon will utilise a reworked version of the X1 platform.
3. Kia Syros EV:
Kia’s compact offering, the Syros, may branch into an all-electric avatar. Expected around 2026, the EV will likely be offered with two battery setups possibly delivering a real world range of over 400 km. Its design and interior elements will likely carry forward the look of the ICE model.
4. Maruti Suzuki Micro SUV:
Maruti Suzuki is said to be building a new micro SUV that will sit below the Brezza and challenge the Punch and Exter. The standout element could be a strong-hybrid system developed in-house – expected to deliver exceptional fuel efficiency that may cross the 30 kmpl mark. It may arrive in 2027 or 2028.
5. Tata Scarlet:
Tata is also rumoured to be readying a new sub-4-metre SUV under the “Scarlet” badge. With design cues reportedly drawing inspiration from the new Sierra but condensed into a smaller and compact footprint, the Scarlet may share powertrains and several hardware components with the Nexon range.
6,7&8. Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, Vision X & Vision S:
Mahindra’s next set of compact SUVs stems from its NU_IQ-based concept family. The Vision S – essentially a compact take on the Scorpio – appears to be the first on the timeline for 2027. Following it will be the Vision X which may target customers looking for a compact crossover. The third product is the XUV 3XO EV, currently undergoing road trials and expected to reach dealerships sometime in 2026.
9. Hyundai Compact EV:
The upcoming small electric SUV has already been confirmed and it will be positioned below the Creta EV. The model will feature two battery versions and is expected to follow the overall design philosophy of the global Inster. Hyundai is believed to be targeting a market launch sometime in 202 – slotting the EV directly against the Punch EV.
