Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV gets a 49 kWh pack and a larger 61.1 kWh unit with the claimed driving range reaching close to 550 km per charge
Toyota is all set to enter India’s electric passenger vehicle space with the arrival of the Urban Cruiser BEV tomorrow. Official teasers released earlier had already confirmed the timeline and the upcoming midsize electric SUV will become Toyota’s first fully electric offering for Indian customers. The model has been co-developed with Suzuki and is closely related to the soon-launching Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
Riding on a 2,700 mm wheelbase, the Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV spans roughly 4,285 mm in length, measures about 1,800 mm across and stands close to 1,640 mm tall. Production of the Urban Cruiser BEV will take place at Suzuki Motor Gujarat’s facility where it will be built on the dedicated Heartect-e skateboard platform. It has been engineered to support shared battery packs, electronics and electrical systems allowing Toyota to benefit from economies of scale and keep pricing competitive.
Globally, the Urban Cruiser BEV is offered with two battery options – a 49 kWh pack and a larger 61.1 kWh unit as the e Vitara whose production began over five months ago in India. Both variants use a single electric motor setup that develops 172 hp and 192 Nm of torque. Toyota claims a driving range close to 550 km on a full charge depending on the battery configuration and testing cycle.

The side profile appears familiar though Toyota differentiates the BEV with unique alloy wheel designs, including 18-inch dual-tone rims. Styling cues up front include slim LED headlamps with integrated daytime running lights and a closed-off grille design. A dedicated BEV badge placed near the front fender hints at the charging port location. Overall, the design remains understated and modern.
Inside, the Urban Cruiser BEV is expected to be loaded with features. Highlights such as a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a fully digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control and ventilated front seats will be available. Toyota’s T Intouch connected car technology is also expected offering remote vehicle functions, charging information, etc.

Having been showcased earlier at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 and the Brussels Motor Show, the Urban Cruiser BEV will compete in a crowded midsize electric SUV segment. Key rivals will include the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV and Mahindra XEV 9e as Toyota looks to make an impact in India’s rapidly expanding EV market.
