Ather secures the third spot in the electric two-wheeler sales tally in September 2025, surpassing Ola Electric, which had previously held the lead

With the entry of legacy players and new product launches throughout the year, the competition in the electric two-wheeler space has intensified. In the month of September 2025, there have been some drastic changes in the market positioning, as Ather Energy overtakes Ola Electric for the first time.

While Ather’s overall growth has been quite steady, it was inching closer to Ola Electric for the number 3 spot for the past few months. However, in September, the Bengaluru-based company took hold of the number 3 spot, while Ola Electric slid to the number 4 position in the electric two-wheeler sales tally.

In addition to this, Ather is touching the territory of Bajaj Auto, which is currently holding the number 2 spot. According to the available sales data from Vahan, Ather managed to sell over 15,000 units in September, while Ola Electric’s sales bar stood under 12,000 units.

The TVS Motor Company retained its dominance in the electric two-wheeler sales in September 2025, holding the number 1 spot with over 20,000 units in its bag. On the other hand, Bajaj has reportedly sold over 16,000 units last month, holding the second position.

Hero Motorcorp, with its Vida range of electric scooters, is standing at the fifth spot, with sales numbers almost at par with Ola Electric at over 11,000 units. With a lot of variables acting in the past month, including the GST reduction on ICE vehicles, the electric two-wheeler market managed to regain some momentum after the commencement of the Navratri period.

Reportedly, Bajaj managed to overcome the production constraints relating to the shortage of rare earth magnets in September, which had affected the output in August. While Ather Energy saw a good growth, Hero Motocorp climbed past the 10,000 units mark, highlighting the rising popularity of the Vida brand. As per the industry experts, Hero’s new Battery-as-a-Service (Baas) option, along with the aggressive marketing, gave a major push to Vida.

Ola Electric, on the other hand, has been registering a month-on-month decline in sales for the most part of this calendar year. However, in terms of overall sales in the January-September 2025 period, it retains the number 3 position with 1.6 lakh units in its portfolio, way ahead of Ather Energy’s 1.3 lakh units mark.
