TVS Motor Company has expanded its electric scooter portfolio with the introduction of the Orbiter V1, a new entry-level variant which looks to give consumers a more accessible option. The scooter is priced from Rs. 49,999 (ex-showroom Delhi) when purchased under the brand’s newly introduced Battery-As-A-Service (BaaS) ownership model.
The Orbiter V1 becomes the most affordable electric scooter in TVS Motor’s lineup and is positioned as an urban commuter. With this launch, the Orbiter range now consists of two variants – the V1 equipped with a 1.8 kWh battery pack and the higher-spec V2 that uses a larger 3.1 kWh unit. The addition of the smaller battery option is expected to attract first-time EV buyers looking for a more budget-friendly alternative.
A key highlight of the launch is the introduction of the Battery-As-A-Service model across the company’s electric scooter portfolio. Under this approach, customers pay a lower upfront price for the scooter while subscribing to the battery through a monthly plan. The BaaS model is designed to reduce the initial purchase cost and offer flexibility through subscription-based battery usage.
Customers who choose the BaaS plan can buy the Orbiter V1 for Rs. 49,999 (ex-showroom Delhi, including benefits from the PM E-Drive Scheme). Those who prefer conventional ownership without the subscription model can purchase the scooter at Rs. 84,500 (ex-showroom Delhi). Subscription plans start from Rs. 862 per month and include an extended warranty of up to five years or 70,000 km depending on the plan selected.
Powering the Orbiter V1 is a 1.8 kWh battery pack. The electric scooter delivers a claimed IDC-certified range of 86 km on a single charge. Charging performance is also geared toward urban use with the battery capable of reaching 80 per cent capacity in around two hours and twenty minutes. It features an 845 mm flat seat along with a 290 mm footboard that offers good legroom.
The upright handlebar layout is intended to provide a relaxed riding posture while a 34-litre under-seat storage compartment offers space to hold two helmets. On the technology front, the Orbiter V1 includes a colour LCD display with smartphone connectivity features. Riders can access incoming call alerts, SMS notifications and other information directly through the instrument cluster.
The scooter is also compatible with a mobile application that allows users to remotely check battery charge levels and vehicle statistics. Additional connected features include turn-by-turn navigation, geo-fencing, anti-theft alerts and over-the-air software updates. Rider assistance functions such as Hill Hold Assist, Cruise Control and Parking Assist are also available. The scooter offers two riding modes – Eco and Power – along with regenerative braking tech.
