The soon-arriving Maruti Suzuki midsize SUV could be dubbed the Escudo; expected to draw power from a 1.5L mild hybrid and 1.5L strong hybrid petrol engines
Maruti Suzuki currently has two brand new SUVs waiting in the pipeline – one is a midsize ICE SUV and the other is its first-ever electric offering. On September 3, 2025 the largest carmaker in the country will introduce its midsize five-seater SUV which will be positioned below the Grand Vitara and we previously informed you of its existence exclusively.
Once launched, the SUV will enter a crowded segment dominated by names such as the Hyundai Creta, Mahindra Scorpio N and Kia Seltos amongst others. It will expand Maruti Suzuki’s footprint in a category where its presence has already been notable courtesy of the Grand Vitara. However, the upcoming model could target more volume sales.
The new SUV will more likely edge past its stablemate in terms of length. In contrast to the Grand Vitara, which is positioned under the Nexa portfolio, what could be dubbed the Escudo might take a different route by being offered through Maruti Suzuki’s Arena outlets – possibly aimed at tapping into a broader customer base.

Pricing is expected to fall somewhere between Rs. 10 lakh and Rs. 15 lakh (ex-showroom) and it will be packed with features and technologies too. It is said to share its powertrains with the Grand Vitara as well. Both the 1.5-litre mild hybrid and the strong hybrid petrol units are expected to make their way under the hood.
Spy shots point to a design that has several similarities with the e Vitara as well as the Grand Vitara. The front end appears more upright, led by a squared-off grille, sharper LED headlamps and a reshaped bumper housing LED fog lamps. A revised bonnet, new front skid plate and a larger air inlet compared to the Grand Vitara are possibilities.

Flared arches, Y-pattern alloys and connected rear lighting will add to the modernity. The interior will be heavily influenced by the Grand Vitara and the upcoming e Vitara as well. A nine-inch touchscreen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto could take centre stage. Other highlights may feature a semi-digital cluster, sunroof, six airbags, climate control, wireless charging pad, connected tech, etc.
