Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus will receive mid-cycle updates this year with cosmetic changes and feature enhancements
Volkswagen has confirmed that both the Taigun and Virtus will receive revisions as part of their scheduled lifecycle updates in India. For the Taigun, the upcoming update will follow the direction set by the recently refreshed Skoda Kushaq. Exterior changes are expected to be evolutionary with subtle revisions focussed on keeping the SUV visually current.
Inside, the emphasis will be on elevating quality through improved materials and finishes. The features list will align closely with the updated Kushaq which suggests that advanced assistance systems such as ADAS and a surround-view camera may not be introduced at this stage. The existing 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo petrol engines are expected to continue while Volkswagen is evaluating the introduction of a new eight-speed automatic transmission option.
The Virtus sedan is scheduled to receive its update in the latter half of the year. Its refresh is expected to mirror the Taigun’s changes in terms of positioning and equipment. A larger infotainment display with revised software and connectivity functions is possible along with upgraded interior trims to enable more premium presentation.

An eight-speed automatic gearbox is also under consideration which would indicate a significant drivetrain update for the model. Alongside these mid-life updates, Volkswagen is working on the development of advanced driver assistance technologies for its mass-market products. The company has outlined a phased introduction strategy wherein new safety and assistance systems are first deployed on higher-end or globally positioned vehicles before being adapted for mainstream models.
The approach has already been applied to products such as the Tiguan R-Line, Golf GTI and the upcoming Tayron R-Line. Volkswagen Group brand Skoda is following a similar development path. Both brands are expected to share technical expertise and integration experience related to ADAS – particularly to ensure cost effectiveness in price-sensitive segments such as those occupied by the Taigun and Virtus.

While no official timeline has been disclosed for the introduction of ADAS on India 2.0 products, product planning cycles indicate that the next-gen Taigun and Virtus are likely to debut after 2027. VW is looking to introduce Tayron R-Line, standard Tayron, Taigun facelift, Virtus facelift and second batch Golf GTI this CY in India.
