Companies such as Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, Renault, Nissan and Kia are said to be developing new hybrid models for the near future

Several carmakers are preparing to bring hybrid technology into the midsize SUV market as the segment goes through a major transition. Companies such as Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, Renault, Nissan and Kia are said to be developing new hybrid models for launch in the coming years. Here we have brought you a rundown of the upcoming models:

1. Maruti Suzuki Escudo:

Maruti Suzuki is developing a new five-seat SUV, known internally as Y17, which is likely to receive the name Escudo once it launches. Positioned between the Brezza and the Grand Vitara in the lineup, the Escudo is set to be distributed through Arena dealerships. The length may exceed that of the Grand Vitara slightly. For the powertrain, customers can expect hybrid options similar to the Grand Vitara.

2&3. New Gen Hyundai Creta & Ni1i SUV:

Alongside visual changes, the feature list is expected to be expanded to match evolving segment standards. Reports indicate that the next-gen model will adopt the 1.5-litre petrol and hybrid setup currently in development for the Ni1i SUV – a future addition which will be positioned between the Alcazar and Tucson.

4. New Kia Seltos:

Test prototypes of the next-gen Kia Seltos have already appeared on Indian roads multiple times. While the model is expected to make its international premiere in 2026, its arrival in India is likely to fall within the same year. A comprehensive rework is planned for the exterior moving away from the current styling language. Inside, the updates are understood to be far more extensive compared to previous revisions. Separate speculation continues to build around a hybrid version being added later.

5. New Gen Renault Duster:

Renault is working towards bringing the Duster nameplate back to Indian showrooms. The new iteration will be underpinned by the CMF-B+ platform which also supports hybrid systems offered in other international markets. Unlike earlier versions, the upcoming Duster is expected to take a more feature-heavy and technically updated route.

6. Nissan Midsize SUV:

Nissan has lined up four new models for the Indian market over the next two years – one of which will be a midsize SUV scheduled to follow the launch of a Triber-derived compact MPV. Positioned as a logical successor to the now-defunct Terrano, the SUV will borrow its underpinnings, drivetrain options and mechanical bits from the upcoming generation of the Duster.

7&8. Renault & Nissan 7-Seater SUVs:

The upcoming Renault Duster and its Nissan-badged sibling may eventually lead to three-row versions – drawing styling cues from the Boreal sold overseas. While timelines remain unconfirmed, both brands are believed to be evaluating hybrid powertrains for these larger derivatives too as per early reports.

9&10. Mahindra XEV 9e & BE 6 Hybrid:
