The 7-seater SUV segment will witness the arrival of a number of new hybrid SUVs in the near future and here we have listed them
SUV demand continues to hold firm and manufacturers are responding by adjusting their approach to stay competitive. Among the emerging trend across upcoming launches will be the presence of hybrid powertrains. As emission norms tighten and purchase decisions become more cost- and efficiency-driven, hybrids will position themselves as a practical compromise.
Inconsistent charging access and persistent range concerns continue to make full-electric vehicles a cautious choice for a large section of buyers. Hybrids may fill that space – retaining the usability of conventional powertrains while easing the transition toward greater efficiency. A closer look at the hybrid models currently under development offers a clearer reading of how the landscape is evolving and where manufacturers are placing their next bets.
1&2. 7-Seater Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder:

The possibility of three-row versions of both the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder continues to surface through recurring reports. If development progresses, the extended models are expected to carry forward the same 1.5-litre mild-hybrid and 1.5-litre strong-hybrid petrol powertrains already offered in their current five-seat formats.

3. Hyundai Ni1i SUV:
Hyundai is said to be working on a new premium SUV project currently known internally by the codename Ni1i. The model is being developed to occupy the space between the Alcazar and the Tucson – addressing a gap in Hyundai’s SUV portfolio in the upper mid-range segment. If the current timeline holds, the SUV could be ready for market launch sometime in 2027.

Powertrain plans for the Ni1i point toward a petrol-hybrid setup as the existing 1.5L petrol engine could work in tandem with a large battery pack and an electric motor to form a hybrid system.

4&5. Renault & Nissan 3-Row SUVs:
Nissan’s upcoming SUV for India will focus on the midsize category with a three-row version also under consideration for a later phase – potentially lined up for the next financial year. Both iterations are expected to be built on the same platform as the next-generation Renault Duster – sharing key components and architecture. Early indications suggest that hybrid powertrains are part of the plan for both Nissan models and if that direction holds, Renault is expected to adopt a similar strategy for its own version.
