7-seater Renault Boreal boasts a new design language with apparent distinctions compared to its Duster sibling
Renault has lifted the cloaks off a new 7-seater C-segment SUV known as the Boreal. Developed for Latin America, Turkey, the Middle East and the Mediterranean, we expect it to arrive in India sometime in 2027 as the three-row iteration of the Duster under the same nameplate. At the front, a full-width grille, LED headlamps that blend into the wings and lighting modules derived from the Niagara concept are the key highlights.
The new design identity is apparent in the body’s flowing surfaces, sculpted curves, plastic-clad wheel arches, 19-inch alloys, contrasting roof, roof rails and aluminium skid plates. At the centre of the dashboard is Renault’s OpenR horizontal twin-screen system. The driver gets a 10-inch digital display complemented by a 10-inch central multimedia unit.
The dash design mirrors that of Renault’s electric models such as the 5 E-Tech and 4 E-Tech while the multifunction steering wheel, e-shifter and backlit metal controls bring an upmarket appeal. The equipment list comprises ambient lighting in 48 selectable shades, soft-touch surfaces, laser-engraved cabin detailing and regional upholstery colours – Blue for Latin America, Cool Grey for Turkey.
Front passengers benefit from powered seats, memory function, massage capability and dual-zone climate control while the rear seats fold 40:60 and include the Easy Break system for fast boot access. The in-car connectivity is shaped around the OpenR Link infotainment system and built on Renault Group’s new international modular platform which incorporates an all-new electrical architecture.
At the heart of this system is native Google integration offering embedded Google Maps, Assistant, Play Store and over-the-air (OTA) updates. Users can access apps such as Waze, Amazon Music, Prime Video, Radioplayer, HBO Max and more. In addition, smart maintenance updates, remote diagnostics and real-time alerts are all supported through the My Renault app.
Remote functions on the My Renault app also allow users to locate the car, precondition the cabin, and receive security alerts or speed notifications. Additional safety and assistance features include PIN-protected access and geofencing. For audio, the Boreal gets a ten-speaker Harman Kardon sound system engineered in collaboration with Jean-Michel Jarre. It is tuned to provide five immersive ambient sound modes: Studio, Concert, Immersion, Club and Lounge.
The C-SUV also gains a suite of 24 driver assistance features including lane keeping functions, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert, emergency braking, driver drowsiness warnings, Occupant Safe Exit alert, Emergency Stop Assist, adaptive cruise control and lane centring enabling Level 2 semi-autonomous driving, automatic parking and more.
For Latin America, the Boreal will debut with a new-gen 1.3-litre TCe turbocharged petrol engine. Offered in both standard petrol and Flex Fuel configurations depending on the country, this engine is tuned to deliver 156 hp in its petrol form and up to 163 hp in Flex Fuel spec. Torque output is also region-specific with figures reaching 270 Nm in Latin America and 240 Nm in Turkey. In the Turkish market, the same 1.3-litre engine makes a lower 138 hp.
Acceleration figures vary by configuration but the SUV can achieve a zero to 100 kmph sprint in 9.26 seconds – placing it among the quickest in its segment in several markets. The engine stop and start function helps improve fuel economy and lower CO₂ output too. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic system, already seen on the Renault Kardian.
The Boreal comes equipped with Renault’s Multi-Sense system which allows drivers to switch between five modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport, MySense and the newly introduced Smart mode which dynamically adjusts the vehicle’s behaviour – modifying throttle input, steering feel, cabin sound profiles and ambient lighting.
The Boreal measures 4,556 mm in length along with a wheelbase of 2,702 mm. The ground clearance stands at 213 mm while the approach and departure angles are 22° and 27° respectively. Boot capacity is rated at 522 litres which expands to 1,279 litres with the rear seats folded. Overall height with roof bars is 1,650 mm and the width stretches to 2,082 mm with mirrors extended.
