New Gen Venue

New Hyundai Venue will hit showrooms around festive season; will receive a host of updates inside and out

The upcoming Hyundai sub-four-metre SUV appears to be edging closer to production with test vehicles now a regular sight across Indian roads and global test locations. Recent sightings suggest the evaluation process might have reached its closing stages. It must be noted that market arrival for the new-gen Venue is being lined up around the festive months.

Internally codenamed QU2i, the second generation Venue will not break away radically in scale but its styling is set for a noticeable reset. Elements seen on Hyundai’s larger siblings, particularly the Alcazar and Creta seem to have influenced the new front end design. The headlights have now shifted to a vertical layout giving the front profile a squarer and more planted look.

The grille has also been revised completely – moving away from the present mesh format in favour of rectangular slats stacked across the nose in multiple layers. While the Venue’s overall silhouette remain the same, subtle touches hint at a more grown-up design language taking shape. The new C-shaped LED daytime lights flanks the main lamps.

The changes do not stop at the front either. Down the flanks, reworked body panels and a set of new 16-inch alloy wheels will be available. The rear section has undergone noticeable changes too with Hyundai altering the tailgate design and reshaping the bumper. A tweaked roof spoiler now tops off the back while revised tail lamp cluster can also be seen.

However, unlike newer offerings from the brand, a full-length connecting LED strip does not appear to feature here – recent spy shots confirm its absence. Under the bonnet, the second-gen Venue is expected to retain the existing powertrain trio: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5-litre diesel and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit.

Gearbox choices are also set to remain familiar with Hyundai likely to continue offering a six-speed MT, six-speed AT and a seven-speed DCT. Key interior additions will reportedly include Level 2 ADAS, a larger touchscreen infotainment system and a dual-pane sunroof. The cabin will witness a thorough update as well featuring a new dashboard layout, a refreshed centre console and revised upholstery options.
